Lorin Elizabeth is an Australian spoken word poet, who creates rhythmic and thought-provoking poetry pieces for performance.

She writes with a strong focus on sound, rhyme and meter, creating a mixture of hip-hop and magic realism to engage live audiences.

Lorin's poetic content covers social injustice, the human condition, vulnerability... and food. With an emphasis on storytelling to promote a broader issue, her raw, authentic performance style has struck a chord with audiences all over Australia.

Lorin was a finalist at the 2014 Nimbin Performance Poetry World Cup and has shared the stage with acclaimed international poets including Buddy Wakefield (USA), Bill Moran (USA), Carlos Andrés Gómez (USA) and Mark Gonzales (USA), plus Australian greats like Candy Royalle, Joel McKerrow and Luka Lesson to name a few.

She has featured at national festivals including Hobart’s DARK MOFO and Newcastle’s National Young Writers' Festival, and she toured Melbourne in 2014 with Mark Gonzales and the team of Stand Tall Speak Out youth poetry slam mentors.

Commissioned and published by The Red Room Company and a performing poet in the 2013 Word Travels Festival, Lorin has also worked and collaborated on interdisciplinary projects like Street Talk for the Wollongong City Council with street artist Fintan Magee and the art-poetry print project The Gardener with Davey Goliath.

Lorin has a thing for community growth and engagement and has established Enough Said, the successful monthly poetry slam in Wollongong and the annual Inter-Uni Poetry Slam for the Wollongong Writers Festival.

In 2014, she launched a recipe/poetry ‘zine collaboration with Laurie May called Eat Read ‘Zine, and was awarded an ArtStart grant from the Australia Council for the Arts to further develop her artistic career. Lorin is currently living in Brooklyn, NY doing cool things like performing at the Women of the World Poetry Slam in Albuquerque, New Mexico and opening for Candy Royalle's Butch Priestess International Tour.

She just released her debut recording, Poems EP and announced the Finding Crossroads USA tour with Rachel Calleja.

You can find Lorin’s poetry in the Writer’s Edit anthology Kindling, the Bankstown Poetry Slam anthology The Last Conversation, at redroomcompany.org and more. She loves being booked for sweet gigs, workshops, collaborations and school/college visits so please get in touch via the contact page!
